Julie attends East Dillon High School to prove to the district's other families that it isn't a bad school. But when he decides to stay in Dillon for his grandmother, Julie is thrilled. This makes Julie question her relationship with Matt. Since Matt is a senior, he planned to head off to art school in Chicago. Julie and Matt's relationship develops into an extremely serious one with both having a deep love for each other. They believe she is too young for this, but are not overbearing and trust Julie's judgment. When her parents discover this, they are concerned. With this, their sexual relationship also begins. Matt asks Julie to go swimming with him at the lake and begin their romantic relationship once again. Julie and Matt are drawn to each other again at the beginning of the season. Julie and Tami's relationship remains rocky for quite some time, but they eventually regain their close bond. With the assistance of Tyra, Julie gets a tattoo, which infuriates Tami. She continues rebelling against her parents, especially her mother, who has just given birth to Gracie Belle. Julie's fling with the Swede ends quickly, but her relationship with Matt does not reignite until the following year. Because of this, Matt and Julie's relationship ends shortly into the season as she fears they start looking like eric and Tami which terrorizes her. She begins to flirt with The Swede, a fellow lifeguard, over the summer before her sophomore year. Julie enters a rebellious phase due to Coach Taylor being away in Austin and Tami giving birth to Gracie. Julie also develops friendships with Landry Clarke and Tyra Collette. That night they say I love you to each other. she contemplates having sex with Matt but he says they do not have to do it if she doesn't want. However, that changes when she meets Matt Saracen, with whom she begins a relationship. She shows no interest in the Dillon Panthers or its players.
